Listeria

Listeria is a type of bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes that can cause an infection known as listeriosis. It is found in soil, water, and some animals, and can contaminate foods such as unpasteurized dairy products, raw vegetables, smoked seafood, and processed foods. People with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and the elderly are most at risk. Listeria can cause symptoms like fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues, and in severe cases, it may lead to meningitis or miscarriage. Proper food handling, cooking, and avoiding high-risk foods help prevent infection.
