Lipid Bilayer Formation

A lipid bilayer is a thin double-layered sheet forming the foundation of cell membranes. It consists of molecules called lipids, which have a water-loving (hydrophilic) head and water-fearing (hydrophobic) tails. These lipids naturally arrange themselves so that the heads face outward toward the watery environment inside and outside the cell, while the tails hide inward, away from water. This spontaneous organization creates a flexible, stable barrier that controls what enters and exits the cell, maintaining its internal environment and enabling communication with its surroundings.
