Linguists are scholars who study language—how it works, how it’s structured, and how it varies across different communities. They analyze sounds (phonetics), word formation (morphology), sentence structure (syntax), meaning (semantics), and language use (pragmatics). Their work helps us understand the rules governing languages, how they change over time, and how people communicate effectively. Lingustics can also include studying endangered languages and developing tools for language technology, such as speech recognition. Essentially, linguists explore the complex system of human language to better understand one of our most distinctive and unifying traits.
