Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from 1861 to 1865. He is best known for leading the nation through the Civil War and working to end slavery, notably by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation and supporting the passage of the 13th Amendment. Lincoln believed in preserving the Union and promoting equality. He was known for his honesty, or "Lincoln's honesty," and his oratorical skill. His leadership and vision for a united country have made him one of America’s most revered presidents. He was assassinated in 1865, just days after the Civil War ended.
