Lilly Ledbetter
Lilly Ledbetter was an American woman renowned for her fight against wage discrimination. After discovering she earned less than her male counterparts at Goodyear Tire, she filed a lawsuit for equal pay. In 2007, her case reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled against her, citing that she missed the deadline to file her claim. This became a pivotal moment in the fight for gender equality in the workplace. In response, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was enacted in 2009, extending the time workers can file pay discrimination claims, promoting fair treatment in employment compensation.
