Lightweight rowing categories
Lightweight rowing categories are divisions based on an athlete's body weight to ensure fair competition. For men, the average crew weight typically must not exceed 70 kg (154 lbs), with no individual over 72.5 kg (160 lbs). For women, the average usually is under 57 kg (125.5 lbs), with no individual over 59 kg (130 lbs). These limits encourage athletes of smaller stature to compete on a level playing field, highlighting skill, endurance, and teamwork rather than just size and strength. Light weight categories are available in various boat types, including singles, doubles, and eights.
