Life Peers

Life peers are individuals appointed to the UK House of Lords for their lifetime, usually in recognition of significant achievements or contributions to society. They hold the title of “Lord” or “Baroness” and can participate in debates, propose legislation, and scrutinize government actions. Unlike hereditary peers, their titles are not inherited and do not pass to descendants. After their death, their title becomes extinct. Life peers are often appointed by the Monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister or the House of Lords Appointments Commission, ensuring a diverse and expert chamber that complements elected Members of Parliament.
