Liberal Wars
The Liberal Wars, also known as the Miguelite Wars (1828–1834), were a series of conflicts in Portugal between liberal constitutionalists and conservative absolutists. The liberals aimed to establish a constitutional government limiting royal power, while the conservatives wanted to maintain the traditional absolute monarchy. The war was fueled by ideological differences about governance and political rights. It ended with the victory of the liberal forces, leading to the adoption of a constitutional monarchy and significant political reforms, shaping Portugal's modern political landscape.
