Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha is a massive stone statue carved into a cliffside in Sichuan, China, built during the Tang Dynasty (around 700 AD). Standing about 71 meters (233 feet) tall, it depicts a seated Maitreya Buddha with detailed features and a gentle expression. Designed to soothe turbulent waters and protect local communities from flooding, the statue's construction involved complex engineering and craftsmanship. It is the world’s largest stone Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflecting significant cultural, religious, and artistic achievements of ancient China.
