Les Grands Travaux

Les Grands Travaux, or "The Great Works," refers to a series of major infrastructure and urban development projects initiated by the French government, particularly during the presidency of Jacques Chirac in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Aimed at revitalizing Paris and other areas, these projects included the construction of new cultural institutions, public spaces, and transportation systems, such as the modern Opéra Bastille and the extensive renovation of the right bank of the Seine. The initiative sought to enhance the city's global standing, improve quality of life, and celebrate France's architectural heritage while fostering contemporary design.
