Legal Permanent Resident
A Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) is a non-citizen who has been granted the right to live and work in a country permanently. In the United States, LPRs are often referred to as "green card" holders because of the card they receive as proof of their status. LPRs can enjoy many of the same rights as citizens, such as access to education and the ability to work, but they cannot vote in federal elections. They must also adhere to certain laws and can eventually apply for U.S. citizenship after meeting specific requirements.
