LEEP
LEEP, or Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure, is a medical treatment used to remove abnormal or precancerous cells from the cervix. During the procedure, a doctor uses a thin, electronic wire loop equipped with a tiny electric current to carefully cut away affected tissue. This helps prevent the development of cervical cancer. LEEP is usually done in a doctor's office or outpatient setting, often under local anesthesia, and is generally quick with minimal discomfort. It also allows the removed tissue to be examined in a lab to ensure all abnormal cells are gone.
