Lead-acid Battery
A lead-acid battery is a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in cars and other applications. It consists of lead dioxide (positive plate), sponge lead (negative plate), and a sulfuric acid electrolyte. When the battery discharges, a chemical reaction occurs, providing electrical energy to start engines or power devices. During recharging, this process is reversed. Lead-acid batteries are known for their durability, ability to deliver high currents, and relatively low cost. However, they are heavy and less energy-dense than modern battery technologies, like lithium-ion. They also require maintenance and proper recycling due to lead and acid components.
