Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA)
The Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) was a U.S. government agency established in 1968 to provide support and funding for state and local law enforcement agencies. Its mission was to improve the effectiveness of police departments, enhance training, and promote innovative crime prevention programs. The LEAA distributed federal grants to help improve policing practices and enhance public safety. This initiative aimed to address rising crime rates and strengthen community trust in law enforcement. In 1982, LEAA was disbanded, but its initiatives and funding influenced many police practices still in use today.
