Lava Tubes

Lava tubes are natural tunnels formed by flowing lava during volcanic eruptions. When a volcano erupts, the outer surface of the flowing lava cools and hardens, while the interior remains molten and continues to move. Once the eruption subsides, the remaining lava inside drains away, leaving an empty tube. These tunnels can extend for miles and feature smooth, hollow passages. Lava tubes are important geological features, providing insights into volcanic activity and creating unique habitats. They are often explored by spelunkers and studied to understand volcanic processes and hazards.
