Laue interpretation involves analyzing X-ray diffraction patterns produced when X-rays are directed at a crystal. When X-rays hit a crystal's orderly atomic structure, they are scattered in specific directions, creating a pattern of spots called Laue spots. By examining the arrangement and symmetry of these spots, scientists can determine the crystal’s orientation and symmetry properties. This method is particularly useful for identifying how a crystal is aligned in space, understanding its internal structure, and examining oriented specimens without needing to cut or modify the sample significantly.
