lateral malleolus
The lateral malleolus is the bony bump on the outer side of your ankle. It’s part of the fibula bone, which runs alongside your tibia (shinbone). This bump helps stabilize your ankle joint, allowing you to walk, run, and balance. The lateral malleolus also protects the ankle from injuries by providing support and anchoring ligaments that connect the bones and soft tissues. It plays a key role in ankle movement and stability, and can be injured through twists, falls, or impacts, sometimes resulting in fractures or sprains.
