Lampsacus
Lampsacus was an ancient Greek city located on the Asian side of the Hellespont, now called the Dardanelles, in modern Turkey. Founded around the 8th century BCE, it became a significant port and trading hub due to its strategic position between Greece and Asia. The city was known for its naval power, cultural contributions, and as a center of philosophy, notably home to the early Greek philosopher Anaxagoras. Over centuries, Lampsacus played a role in regional politics and warfare, eventually falling under Roman control. Today, archaeological sites and underwater remnants mark its historical significance.
