Lake Chad

Lake Chad is a large, shallow freshwater lake located in Central Africa, bordered by Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Historically, it was one of Africa's biggest lakes, but over the past decades, its surface area has shrunk significantly due to climate change, overuse of water for agriculture, and drought. The lake provides water for millions of people and supports local fisheries and agriculture. Its shrinking has caused environmental and economic challenges, including increased desertification, food insecurity, and conflicts over resources. Efforts are ongoing to manage and restore parts of Lake Chad to sustain the communities that depend on it.
