Kussmaul respirations

Kussmaul respirations are deep, rapid breathing patterns often seen in people with severe metabolic acidosis, particularly diabetic ketoacidosis. This type of breathing helps the body remove excess acids and carbon dioxide from the blood, attempting to restore a normal pH balance. The breaths are usually characterized by their depth and regular rhythm, but occur more quickly than normal. This response is a natural mechanism your body uses to correct an imbalance in blood chemistry caused by conditions like uncontrolled diabetes, kidney failure, or other illnesses affecting acid-base balance.
