Kuomintang of China
The Kuomintang (KMT), also known as the Nationalist Party of China, is a major political party founded in 1919 that played a central role in China's modern history. It aimed to unify China, promote nationalism, and modernize the country through various reforms. Led by figures like Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek, the KMT initially governed mainland China. However, after losing the Chinese Civil War to the Communist Party, the KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949, where it established a government that continues to influence Taiwanese politics today. The party's ideology combines Chinese nationalism with elements of democracy and modernization.
