Kunashir
Kunashir is the southernmost island of the Kuril Islands chain, located in the North Pacific Ocean, near Russia and Japan. It covers about 1,600 square kilometers and features volcanic landscapes, hot springs, and rich biodiversity. Part of Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast, Kunashir is known for its natural beauty and geothermal activity. The island is at the center of a territorial dispute between Russia and Japan, as both countries claim sovereignty. Despite this, Kunashir remains a remote, ecologically significant area, attracting researchers and travelers interested in its volcanic terrain and wildlife.
