Kosovo War
The Kosovo War, which occurred from 1998 to 1999, was a conflict mainly between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (primarily Serbs) and the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), which sought independence for Kosovo, a region with a majority ethnic Albanian population. Tensions escalated due to repression of ethnic Albanians by Yugoslav forces. NATO intervened with a bombing campaign against Yugoslav targets in 1999 to stop the humanitarian crisis. The war ended with Kosovo placed under UN administration, and in 2008, Kosovo declared independence, a move recognized by many countries but still contested by Serbia.
