Kosovo (UN Resolution 1244)

UN Security Council Resolution 1244, adopted in 1999, established Kosovo as an autonomous province within Serbia following a conflict. It authorized an international peacekeeping mission to maintain stability and oversee self-governance, while reaffirming Serbia’s sovereignty over Kosovo. The resolution aimed to ensure peace, protect human rights, and facilitate the province's future status, which has remained a subject of international debate. In 2008, Kosovo declared independence, a move recognized by some countries but not all, with the UN resolution providing the framework for ongoing negotiations and international involvement.
