Komagata Maru incident

The Komagata Maru incident occurred in 1914 when a Japanese steamship, the Komagata Maru, attempted tobring Indian immigrants to Canada, seeking better opportunities. Canadian laws at the time restricted immigration from India, especially targeting people from British India, where many Sikhs, Punjabis, and other groups wanted to settle. The ship was turned away in Vancouver, and after weeks of debate, it was forced to return to India. Upon arrival, some passengers were detained or faced violence, and several were killed during unrest. The event highlighted racial discrimination and contributed to tensions around immigration policies in Canada.
