KOH test
The KOH test is a simple laboratory procedure used to identify certain skin, nail, or hair fungal infections. A small sample is taken from the affected area and mixed with a solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH). The KOH dissolves skin cells and debris but leaves fungal cells intact. Under a microscope, the presence of fungi or their spores can be seen, confirming a fungal infection. This test helps doctors quickly diagnose infections like athlete’s foot or nail fungus and determine the appropriate treatment.
