Knud den Store (Canute the Great)
Canute the Great, also known as Knud den Store, was an important king of the early 11th century who ruled over England, Denmark, Norway, and parts of what is now Sweden. He was the son of King Sweyn Forkbeard and Emma of Normandy. Canute is best known for bringing peace and stability to his diverse realm after years of conflict. He promoted the Christian faith and worked to integrate various cultures within his kingdoms. One famous legend is his attempt to demonstrate the limits of royal power by commanding the tides to stop, symbolizing humility in leadership.
