Knighthood

Knighthood is an honor granted by a monarch or government in recognition of an individual's significant contributions to society, such as in military service, public service, or the arts. Recipients, known as knights, often receive titles and may be awarded the distinction of "Sir" for men or "Dame" for women. The tradition began in the Middle Ages, where knights were elite warriors serving lords. Today, knighthood symbolizes excellence and dedication, often accompanied by ceremonial rites, such as being "dubbed" with a sword. While it does not confer noble status, it carries prestige and recognition of achievement.
