Klumpke's Palsy (a variant)
Klumpke's palsy is a type of nerve injury that affects the lower part of the arm, specifically the hand and wrist. It occurs when the lower trunk of the brachial plexus nerves, which control arm and hand movements, is stretched or damaged, often during childbirth. This condition can lead to weakness in the hand, difficulty gripping, or the affected arm hanging limply. It is less common than Erb's palsy, which affects the upper arm. Treatment may involve physical therapy, and in some cases, surgery may be necessary to restore function. Early intervention is crucial for recovery.
