Kingdom of Kotte

The Kingdom of Kotte was a Sri Lankan kingdom that flourished from the late 15th to the early 16th century. Established around 1400 CE, it became a major political and cultural center under the Sinhalese dynasty. Situated near modern-day Colombo, Kotte was known for its impressive forts, temples, and vibrant trade activities. The kingdom maintained independence for much of its existence, navigating complex relationships with neighboring kingdoms and emerging European traders. Its decline began with Portuguese invasions in the early 1500s, eventually leading to foreign influence over the island. Kotte played a significant role in shaping Sri Lanka’s history and heritage.
