Kilning Process

The kilning process is a controlled heating method used to dry and develop flavors in products like coffee beans, malted grains, or clay bricks. It involves gradually raising the temperature over time in a kiln—a specialized oven—allowing moisture to evaporate and chemical changes to occur. In coffee production, for example, kilning (roasting) transforms green beans into aromatic, flavorful roasted coffee. The process helps achieve desired consistency, enhances taste, and develops characteristic qualities while preventing over-baking or burning. Proper kilning balances temperature and time to optimize the final product's quality and flavor profile.
