Kigali Agreement

The Kigali Agreement, adopted in 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda, aims to phase out substances known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) that are commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning. HFCs are potent greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. The agreement, an amendment to the Montreal Protocol, encourages countries to reduce HFC production and consumption in a coordinated manner. By transitioning to more environmentally friendly alternatives, the Kigali Agreement seeks to protect the climate while supporting sustainable economic growth, demonstrating global commitment to address climate change through international cooperation.
