kidney transplant theory

A kidney transplant involves surgically replacing a person's diseased kidney with a healthy one from a donor. The procedure is based on matching donor and recipient through blood and tissue compatibility to reduce rejection risks. Once transplanted, the new kidney can take over the role of filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood, which the failing original kidneys cannot do effectively. The body may sometimes recognize the new kidney as foreign and attempt to attack it, so patients often take medications called immunosuppressants to prevent this. Successful transplants can significantly improve quality of life and kidney function.
