Kidney Allograft

A kidney allograft is a transplant of a kidney from a donor—either living or deceased—into a recipient whose own kidneys are failing. This procedure replaces the damaged kidney with a healthy one, allowing the recipient to regain normal kidney function. The immune system may recognize the new kidney as foreign and try to attack it, so patients typically take medications to suppress this response and prevent rejection. Kidney transplants can greatly improve quality of life and extend lifespan for people with severe kidney disease. Proper matching and medical care are essential for a successful transplant outcome.
