Khilafat Rebellion
The Khilafat Rebellion was a movement in India during the early 1920s, protesting against the dismantling of the Ottoman Caliphate after World War I. Muslims in India felt a strong religious and political loyalty to the Caliph, who was regarded as the spiritual leader of Muslims worldwide. The movement aimed to preserve the Caliphate's authority and oppose Western influence. It united many Indian Muslims and became part of the broader struggle for independence under leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. Although ultimately unsuccessful in restoring the Caliphate, it marked a significant moment of Muslim political activism in India.
