Khilafat-e-Hind
Khilafat-e-Hind was a political movement in British India (1919–1924) aimed at defending the Ottoman Caliphate, the spiritual leadership of Muslims worldwide, after World War I threatened its existence. Indian Muslims saw the Caliphate as a symbol of Islamic unity and identity. The movement sought to resist British policies that threatened the Caliphate’s sovereignty and to promote solidarity among Muslims. Led by leaders like Maulana Muhammad Ali and Maulana Shaukat Ali, it also intertwined with efforts for Indian independence, emphasizing religious unity and political assertiveness. The movement eventually declined due to internal disagreements and changing political circumstances.
