Khalqi

The Khalqi was a political faction in Afghanistan during the 1970s and early 1980s, associated with the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA). They were Marxist-Leninist in ideology, advocating for socialist reforms and closer ties with the Soviet Union. The Khalqi faction, led by figures like Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin, was characterized by its more radical, revolutionary approach compared to their rivals within the PDPA. Their rise to power in 1978 marked the beginning of a period of political upheaval, civil war, and significant Soviet influence in Afghanistan.
