Khalistan Movement

The Khalistan Movement is a political and separatist campaign seeking to create an independent Sikh nation called Khalistan in the Punjab region of India. Originating in the 1970s, it arose from grievances over political and economic marginalization of Sikhs following India's independence, especially after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the military operation at the Golden Temple. Supporters believe that Sikhs deserve their own homeland to preserve their culture and religion. The movement has led to significant unrest and has been associated with violence, but its support has declined in recent years, especially among younger generations.
