keratoplasty

Keratoplasty, commonly called corneal transplant, is a surgical procedure to replace a damaged or diseased cornea with a healthy donor cornea. The cornea is the clear, front part of the eye that helps focus light. When the cornea becomes cloudy, scarred, or warped, it can impair vision. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the affected corneal tissue and surgically grafts the donor tissue in its place. This can restore clarity and improve vision. Depending on the specific condition, different types of keratoplasty may be performed, such as full-thickness or partial-thickness transplants.
