Karl Benz was a German engineer and inventor best known for creating the first practical automobile powered by an internal combustion engine. Born in 1844, he designed the Benz Patent Motorwagen in 1885, which is often regarded as the first true car. Benz's innovations laid the foundation for the modern automotive industry. He co-founded the Benz & Cie. company, which later merged with another manufacturer to form Daimler-Benz, known for producing Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
