Kanun

Kanun refers to a set of legal codes that originated in the Ottoman Empire, used to govern various aspects of daily life, social order, and justice. Unlike Islamic law (Sharia), which is based on religious texts, Kanun was secular and created by rulers to address issues such as property rights, taxation, and criminal justice. The laws were intended to adapt to changing circumstances and provide a framework for governance. Kanun continued to influence legal systems in some modern Balkan and Middle Eastern countries, reflecting a blend of tradition and state authority in law.
