
Kōbō Daishi (Kukai)
Kōbō Daishi, also known as Kukai, was a renowned Japanese Buddhist monk and scholar from the 9th and 10th centuries. He founded the Shingon school of Buddhism, emphasizing esoteric teachings, meditation, and rituals to attain spiritual insight. Kukai was also a poet, calligrapher, and innovator who helped develop Japanese calligraphy and writing. He played a key role in spreading Buddhist practices and culture throughout Japan, establishing temples such as Mount Kōya, which remains a spiritual site today. His teachings continue to influence Japanese Buddhism, blending spiritual discipline with artistic and cultural achievements.
