Justo José de Urquiza was an Argentine leader and statesman in the 19th century, known for uniting Argentina’s provinces and strengthening federalism, opposing the centralist government in Buenos Aires. He served as governor of Entre Ríos Province and became the first President of the Argentine Confederation (1854–1860). Urquiza played a crucial role in ending internal conflicts and promoting national unity. His leadership helped stabilize Argentina during a turbulent period, but he was ultimately assassinated in 1870, reflecting ongoing political struggles. His legacy is significant in shaping Argentina’s political structure and federalist principles.
