Juntas de Buen Gobierno
Juntas de Buen Gobierno are community-led councils established by the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico. They serve as autonomous decision-making bodies that represent local Indigenous communities, promoting governance based on direct participation, consensus, and respect for indigenous customs and autonomy. These juntas coordinate social programs, defend community rights, and facilitate communication with authorities, all while operating independently of the Mexican government. Their goal is to empower local populations, preserve cultural identity, and create a model of self-governance rooted in collective decision-making and social justice.
