Joseph II

Joseph II was the ruler of the Habsburg Empire from 1765 to 1790 and is considered one of the most progressive monarchs of his time. He sought to modernize the empire through reforms such as promoting religious tolerance, reducing the power of the Catholic Church, expanding education, and centralizing government administration. While well-intentioned, many reforms faced resistance and were difficult to implement fully, leading to mixed outcomes. His rule was marked by efforts to create a more rational and efficient state, but his reforms also caused social upheaval and dissatisfaction among various groups, ultimately limiting their success.
