John of Nepomuk was a 14th-century Czech priest and martyr, known for his steadfastness in protecting the confidentiality of confessions. He served as a chaplain for the queen of Bohemia and is said to have been killed by King Wenceslaus IV for refusing to reveal her secrets. John was later canonized as a saint and became the patron saint of confessors and the sacrament of confession. His legacy is symbolized by his statue appearing on many bridges in Europe, and he is often depicted with five stars, representing his mysterious and revered nature. His feast day is celebrated on March 20.
