John of France (Jean II)
John II of France, also known as John the Good, was King of France from 1350 to 1364. He became king during a turbulent period marked by the Hundred Years' War against England. In 1356, he was captured by the English at the Battle of Poitiers, leading to a significant ransom demand that strained French resources. His reign was marked by internal strife and struggles against both external enemies and domestic nobles. After his release, John tried to restore order and strengthen the monarchy, but his health declined, and he ultimately died in 1364, leaving his son, Charles V, to succeed him.
