Johann III of Malta
Johann III of Malta was a nobleman and ruler during the early 16th century, serving as the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller (a religious-military order) from 1557 to 1568. He managed Malta during a turbulent period, notably overseeing defenses and efforts to protect the island from Ottoman threats. His leadership was marked by efforts to strengthen the order’s hold on Malta amidst external pressures and internal challenges. While not as widely known as other Grand Masters, Johann III played a key role in maintaining stability during a critical era for Malta’s strategic position in the Mediterranean.
