Jodo Shinshu sect

Jodo Shinshu, also known as Shin Buddhism, is a Japanese Buddhist tradition emphasizing reliance on Amida Buddha’s vow to save all beings. It teaches that enlightenment is accessible through sincere faith and recitation of the nembutsu (“Namu Amida Butsu”), rather than strict self-discipline. Founded by Shinran in the 13th century, it emphasizes compassionate appeal over rituals and emphasizes that enlightenment is open to everyone, regardless of background. Its focus is on gratitude, humility, and trust in Amida Buddha’s grace as the path to liberation and rebirth in the Pure Land.
