JNA (Yugoslav People's Army)

The JNA, or Yugoslav People's Army, was the unified military force of Yugoslavia from 1945 until the early 1990s. It was established to defend the socialist federation, which comprised six republics and two autonomous provinces. The JNA included army, navy, and air force units, and was known for its large size and diversity, reflecting Yugoslavia’s multiple ethnic groups. During the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s, the JNA played a central role in conflicts and peacekeeping efforts. It aimed to maintain the country's unity but ultimately dissolved as Yugoslavia disintegrated.
